Prestigious recognition by the All India Ophthalmological Society celebrates his outstanding contributions to global eye care

Lucknow, April  2026 — Dr. Diva Kant Misra, Director of Swarnjyoti Eye Hospital, Lucknow, and one of India’s most respected vitreoretinal surgeons, has been awarded the “International Hero of Ophthalmology” honour by the All India Ophthalmological Society at the All India Ophthalmological Conference 2026 held in Jaipur.

This recognition places Dr. Misra among a select group of ophthalmologists who have made a significant impact not just in India, but globally, through their work in advancing eye care.

About the Award

The “International Hero of Ophthalmology” is one of the most prestigious honours given by AIOS, the apex body for ophthalmologists in India. It is awarded to professionals who have demonstrated excellence in surgery, contributed to academic growth, and represented Indian ophthalmology on an international platform.

A Career Built on Consistency and Skill

Over the years, Dr. Misra has performed more than 10,000 retinal procedures, building a reputation as one of the country’s leading vitreoretinal specialists. His training at institutions like Harvard Medical School and Stanford University has shaped his approach, blending global exposure with hands-on expertise.

Back home in Lucknow, he has focused on making advanced retinal care accessible to patients across Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions, ensuring that high-quality treatment is not limited to metro cities.

His journey has been marked by several recognitions, including:

  • Top 20 Asia Pacific Rising Stars of Ophthalmology by Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (2023)
  • Yasuo Tano Award for excellence in vitreoretinal surgery
  • Ophthalmic Hero of India

He has also taken on important leadership roles, serving as President of the Young Ophthalmologists Society of India, and contributing to key committees within AIOS and APAO. He is also part of the APAO Leadership Development Program (LDP) Class XIV for 2025–26.
