WPL 2024: The Gujarat Giants’ winless streak continues as Beth Mooney acknowledges, “Our batters have let us down.”

The Gujarat Giants’ 2024 WPL winless streak was extended with a 25-run defeat to the Delhi Capitals. The team’s skipper, Beth Mooney, acknowledged that the hitters had failed the team, as they are currently the only team remaining in the competition to register a run.

Gujarat’s bowling limited Delhi to 163, but they were unable to chase down 164, even with a fast 40 from Ashleigh Gardner. As a result, they lost by 25 runs and concluded their competition’s Bengaluru leg without a victory.

Sayali Satghare became the first concussion substitute in WPL history when he replaced Dayalan Hemalatha, who was struck in the forehead while attempting to take a catch in the first inning. In addition, they were without the services of Sneh Rana and Harleen Deol due to injuries from Sunday’s encounter.

It is disappointing, of course. Although it hasn’t worked out that way, we would have wanted to serve on the board. In the end, it was quite close. It would have been simple to pursue it if we had a large amount of cooperation in the middle.”

In Twenty20 cricket, you want to start strong. The bowlers from Delhi bowled well. It might have been a different tale if we had ended the powerplay at 50 for no loss. It’s not enough that I or we have performed well enough. After the game, Beth commented, “Our hitters have let us down.”

The fact that none of Gujarat’s batsmen have scored fifty runs in the competition so far is a good indicator of their batting problems. “It would be beneficial to score a few more runs, ideally starting with the captain and working through the rest of the team,” Beth said.

Gujarat’s suffering has been exacerbated by their poor fielding effort, as they failed to convert five opportunities, with Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning, Annabel Sutherland, Shikha Pandey, and Jess Jonassen all receiving relief at various points throughout Delhi’s innings.

“To be honest, we’ve bowled really well this tournament. For the second or third time this season, we are defending a quite modest total. That’s been a rather methodical bowling effort. To be honest, we have most likely let the bowlers down on the field. Given how Delhi fielded, (it’s) Not up to par. Beth answered, “We’ll have to have a look at it.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, Gujarat will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game of the Delhi leg of the WPL 2024.
